Debra Bender, owner of Half Moon Handwerks for almost 16 years, has been involved with textiles since her grandmother taught her to sew at age 8. Her love of color and texture has attracted her to learning many techniques including quilting, folk art painting and lacemaking. She loves teaching others
by encouraging them to learn the basics, then setting them free to explore and create their own works of art.  

“Half Moon Handwerks” is a tribute to her family’s history. Her father’s family settled in Half Moon Township PA, near State College and she gets her entrepreneurial spirit from them. From the German roots of her mother’s family comes “handwerks,” meaning 'crafts.’

She and her staff are dedicated to giving you the very best fabrics, fibers, tools, and instruction to add spark and sizzle to your creative endeavors, with a focus on uniqueness, quality products, and great customer service.

We believe that “your journey begins with a single stitch” and would be honored to be your guide by providing inspiration, education and connection.
