Chicken Scratch Pincushion

Have you ever admired sweet, lacy-looking designs stitched on gingham fabric? Maybe you've come across a gingham apron or tablecloth in a thrift store? Well, that’s Chicken Scratch embroidery! You have probably seen it, but didn't know the name of the technique.

Popular in the 1930s & 40s, it looks intricate and, quite honestly, impressive! But the stitches themselves are very simple  - - variations of cross stitches, straight stitches, and a bit of weaving through them.

We'll practice the stitches and then make a square to turn into a cute little pincushion with a wooden base.
