What do you see first when you look at this quilt? The diamonds or the stars? The visual impact between the two is created by the strong contrast between the values of the fabrics. The fabric of the stars is a light neutral. The diamonds are made using a variety of dark and medium cool colors.
This quilt is made using foundation piecing or what is sometimes referred to as a “string” piecing because it uses strips, or strings, which are sewn onto a foundation to make the blocks. The sample uses 10” squares for the foundation and 2” wide strips for the strings.
